Freelance writing for magazine focused on experiential travel

Big World Magazine, a new online magazine about travel and culture, seeks stories, photo essays and multimedia about voyages, ideas, food, people, festivals and trends. We’re interested in powerful narratives, provocative profiles, reported stories, investigative work, and photos, video and audio that evoke a sense of place. No service, please.

This is unpaid, but pays 50 percent of any syndication fees, and a correspondent’s listing circulated to many other assigning editors.

Forbes

Forbes is a daily business and economics magazine and news site with a scope that reaches many parts of the world and an international readership. Our approach to the movements and trends of business and world markets is smart, critical and unique in the way that Forbes has made itself to be over the past century.

Interns will be receiving school credit and may be current undergraduate or graduate students, or recent graduates of no more than a year.

Candidates will be considered for positions that are fast-paced and research heavy to support the ambitious multi-layered features that advance our reporting. Good writing and reporting skills are necessary. Interns leave with experience of working in a daily newsroom and several bylined articles.

Past interns have worked on stories and lists such as the technology of wind energy; the world’s least and most patriotic countries, the politics of the G8 Summit, and the Forbes list of top-producing American colleges.

We are interested in someone who can work approximately 20 hours a week. This is a for-credit internship program and is for the full semester.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a talented writing student who is an enthusiastic self-starter with good communication and writing skills. Must be organized and able to work within deadlines.

Approximate Start Date is September 14, 2009. Internships will last the duration of the fall semester. Time commitment is approximately 15-20 hours per week.

The Onion

The Onion, “America’s Finest News Source” based in New York City, is seeking editorial interns for Fall 2009. Duties will include: research, fact-checking, managing editorial submissions, and other general editorial support. This is strictly a non-writing program, but provides an opportunity to work closely with the editorial staff and learn the ins-and-outs of the paper’s production. The internship begins early-mid September and runs through the end of December. Interns must be able to commit to the whole fall and work 3 days a week in our New York office. The Independent (www.independent-magazine.org) a 30-year old publication
now printed as an online magazine with 13,000 subscribers is seeking a
volunteer freelance associate editor to do the following:

* Participate in monthly editorial meetings.

* Maintain the roster of writers.

* Assign all articles for upcoming issues.

* Edit stories and deliver for top editorial read

There is the possibility of a small monthly stipend for the work, but in
general this is an unpaid volunteer position to start. The Independent is

Fashionwithfifi.com is an online trusted source that reviews the latest in fashion and beauty trends world wide – offering an array of discounted sales alert, fashion finds, health tips, makeup contests and tutorials.

We’re interested in students who are fashion forward, detail oriented, prompt and willing to work hard. Interns will learn how to write/ demonstrate (via video) product reviews and fashion features as well as be asked to come up with larger package ideas. They will also learn how to deliver quality content to an online audience. This is not a tech-heavy position, but more creative and editorially based. Those selected will see their work published on Fashionwithfifi.com almost immediately. Interns will be exposed to the exciting world of online journalism. Some administrative duties will be required. Youtube, fashion/ beauty writing or blogging experience is a plus.
